Oklahoma TANF Child-Only Payment Amount: How Much Will You Receive?
When you're suddenly buying diapers, school supplies, and groceries for a grandchild or relative's child, the first question is practical: how much money will we actually get? Here are the exact Oklahoma TANF Child-Only payment standards.
Current Payment Amounts
Oklahoma calculates child-only grants using Appendix C-1, Schedule IX.B ("Children only, no adults included in the assistance payment"). The monthly payment standard represents approximately 54% of the state's calculated need standard:
| Children in Household | Need Standard | Monthly Payment |
|---|---|---|
| 1 child | $193 | $104 |
| 2 children | $380 | $205 |
| 3 children | $535 | $289 |
| 4 children | $691 | $373 |
| 5 children | $830 | $448 |
These are maximum amounts. The only thing that reduces them is income directly attributable to the child.
What Counts Against the Grant
Your income as the caregiver — Social Security, pensions, wages, savings — is completely excluded under OAC 340:10-3-57. Only the child's own income is counted dollar-for-dollar against the payment standard. Sources of child income include:
- Child support payments routed through OKDHS Child Support Services
- Social Security survivor or disability benefits paid on the child's own record
- Trust income or other payments made directly to or for the child
If the children in your care have no personal income, you receive the full amount listed above.
A Real-World Example
A grandmother receives $2,400 per month in Social Security retirement and holds $15,000 in savings. She takes in her two grandchildren who have no income of their own. Under child-only rules, her $2,400 and her $15,000 are both irrelevant. The household qualifies for the full two-child payment of $205 per month.
If one grandchild later begins receiving $100 per month in Social Security survivor benefits, that $100 is subtracted from $205, dropping the monthly grant to $105.

When Payments Start
OKDHS has 30 calendar days from the date you submit your application to process a TANF request. Benefits are typically issued on an EBT card once approved.
These Amounts Won't Cover Everything
At $104 for one child, nobody pretends TANF is enough to raise a child on. Think of it as one piece of a larger picture. Oklahoma kinship caregivers can often stack multiple programs: SNAP for groceries, SoonerCare for the child's health coverage, subsidized childcare, WIC for children under five, and free school meals.
Our Oklahoma Kinship Financial Help Guide lays out every program in one place, showing which ones you can combine and how the income rules differ from program to program.
