Wyoming DFS Office Locations and Phone Numbers for Kinship Caregivers
Where to Submit Your Application
Wyoming Department of Family Services runs local field offices in every county. When you are applying for POWER Caretaker Relative cash assistance or SNAP food benefits on behalf of a grandchild or relative's child, your application goes to the DFS field office serving the county where you live.
You have three ways to get your application to DFS:
- In person at your local county DFS office during business hours
- By mail to the county office address
- By email to
[email protected]— this single statewide email address accepts both SNAP and POWER applications, along with supporting documents like pay stubs, birth certificates, and proof of residency
The email route is the fastest option when you cannot reach the office in person. Attach scanned or photographed copies of your verification documents to the same email. DFS date-stamps your application from the day they receive it, so getting it in quickly matters — your eligibility begins from that date, not from the interview date.
The DFS Interview Line
After DFS receives your application, you will need to complete an intake interview. Wyoming DFS operates a statewide phone interview line at 1-307-777-8550. The line runs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Mountain Time.
This is not a scheduling line. You call during the operating hours to complete your interview after your application is already on file. Have these ready when you call:
- Your Social Security number and the child's
- The child's date of birth
- Your monthly income sources (Social Security, pension, wages)
- Any income the child receives directly
- Your housing costs (rent or mortgage, utilities)
If the phone interview does not work for your situation, you can request an in-person interview at your local DFS office instead.
Finding Your County DFS Office
DFS maintains field offices across Wyoming's 23 counties. Each office handles applications, eligibility determinations, and ongoing case management for the residents of its county. The Wyoming DFS website at dfs.wyo.gov publishes a complete directory of county office addresses and phone numbers under the "Contact Us" section.
For the largest population centers:
- Cheyenne (Laramie County) — the state's largest DFS office, serving the most populated county
- Casper (Natrona County) — central Wyoming's primary office
- Gillette (Campbell County) — northeastern Wyoming
- Rock Springs (Sweetwater County) — southwestern Wyoming
- Sheridan (Sheridan County) — north-central Wyoming
If you live in a county without a dedicated office nearby, the statewide email and phone interview options mean you can complete the entire process remotely.

Tips for a Smooth Application
Submitting by email to [email protected] creates a paper trail and a timestamp. Include your full name and date of birth in the subject line, as DFS requests.
When mailing or dropping off paper forms, ask the front desk to stamp your copy with the received date. That timestamp protects you if there is ever a question about when your eligibility period should begin.
If your SNAP application stalls or you do not hear back within 30 days, call your county office directly to check the status. The statewide phone line is reserved for completing interviews, not case status questions. POWER payments follow a Pay-After-Performance schedule; contact your county office to ask about your payment status.
The complete Wyoming Financial Help for Kinship Caregivers guide walks through each program's application process step by step, including exactly which documents DFS needs, how the income rules differ between POWER and SNAP, and what to do if your application is denied.
